David Baker Obituary

David Lee Baker, 65, of Roanoke, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 7, 2010, in Friendship Manor after an extended illness. David was born on September 10, 1944, in Tazewell, Va., a son of the late Ollie Mae Combs Baker and Robert Lee Baker Sr. He spent several years at the Virginia Baptist Children's Home in Salem, Va., having many fond memories there. He was a carpet layer for many years and also an oil rigger. He will be greatly missed but remembered for his heartfelt laughter and sense of humor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Jean Baker Hall. Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Baker Kirby and husband, Russell R. Kirby, of Vinton, and Ruth E. Alley and husband, Paul Junior Alley, of Bassett; two brothers, Robert Lee Baker Jr. and wife, Beth E. Baker, of Bedford, and Charles (Danny) Baker and wife, Marsha E. Baker, of Powhatan; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hope Tree Family Services, formerly the Virginia Baptist Children's Home, 901 Mt. Vernon Lane, Salem, Va. 24153 or to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel and Crematory, 540-982-2221.
