SFC David Allen Loudermilk

SFC David Allen Loudermilk, USA (Ret.), of Roanoke, Va., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the age of 72.

Born on June 17, 1949, in Green Acres, Fla., he was a loving Christian husband and father, and grandfather, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Betty Waterman Loudermilk, and their son, David Thomas Loudermilk of Salisbury, N.C.; and daughter, Nancy Jean Ball (Andy) of Clements, Md.; grandchildren, Sarah Nicole Tippett and Michael Allen Tippett, and former son-in-law, Michael S. Tippett, all of LaPlata, Md.; sisters Eddi L. Winter (Richard) Franklin, N.C., Rebecca L. Tillis and Joyce L. Cline of Vero Beach, Fla., and Penny Crane Cox (Johnnie) of Indianapolis, Ind.; and brother, Willis V. Loudermilk of Vero Beach, Fla.

David was predeceased by two daughters, Cindy L. Bradford and Judy Ann Loudermilk; his brothers, Douglas E. Loudermilk and Donald Crane; as well as his sister, Jackie Crane Hyer.

He was a skilled chef and club manager with 25 years of military experience and service attaining the non-commissioned officer rank of Sergeant First Class serving three tours of duty in Vietnam and other tours including Korea, Germany and stateside. Among his many medals is The Purple Heart.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Oakey's South Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021, at Living Water Christian Church at Northside, 5110 Florist Road, Roanoke, VA 24012, followed by a Graveside Service with Full Military Honors at the Pavilion at Sherwood Memorial Park, 1250 E. Main Street, Salem, VA 24153. Services will be conducted by Pastor Paul Hatfield. A reception for family and friends will be held at Living Water Christian Church – Salem at 1520 Swimmer Lane, Salem, VA 24153.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Living Water Christian Church at Northside or to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.oakeys.com.
