David Shank Obituary
April 12, 2025
David T. Shank, 82, of Ft. Mill, SC, and formerly of Roanoke, VA, passed away Saturday, April 12, with his loving wife by his side.
He was predeceased by brothers, Billy, Michael, and Steven; and sister, Mary Swann Lantz.He is survived by his wife, Sharon Fitzpatrick Shank; daughter, Jennifer Shank; son, Chad Lahar; granddaughters, Carrie Davis and Jenna Lahar.
David was employed by Norfolk Southern Corp. for 34 years. He was known for his quick sense of humor and always willing to lend a helping hand. He was deeply loved by his family and many friends.
Special thanks to his caring neighbors and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care of David the last few months.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Gentiva Hospice, 223 S. Herlong St., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be announced at a later date.

So many memories! Summers at his grandparents' cabin on a dammed up creek in Catawba, swimming at his other grandparents' home, going to his home to watch tv (they had a tv before Roanoke had a tv station), helping him with Geometry, his mother's death in 1961. He also introduced me to Ed Huffman, the love of my life. We double dated with David and Diane before they married and Jennifer was born. He and Diane Slusher took us to North Carolina to get married because my parents wouldn't sign for me to get married in Virginia. That night he and Diane took us to dinner at the Candlelight restaurant. David's father was my mother's first cousin. They lived across the alley and three houses up from us. Oh, I smoked my first cigarette with David and an older girl that his mother knew. So many more memories! Rest in peace, David. Tell Ed Huffman that I said that I still miss him!
