"I can only imagine, but Dennis knows"
I had the privilage to watch Dennis grow into an awesome godly man. He was almost 18 in the summer of '63 when he diligently courted my mother, to win my sister's hand. Carol didn't even "like" him. Oh, what a love story to be.
Dennis spent most of his life working toward Heaven and getting anyone who listened a few minutes; how to get there too. He literally believed the Bible, loved gospel singing, teaching Sunday School and fellowship with believers and non-believers (gave them an earful to think about). He listened mostly and spoke little. His godly spirit demanded your attention. His baby blues sparkled as he gave you that innocent grin. Mostly gave his opinion only when asked, always truthful, sometimes stinging.
Dennis never visited me without toolbox in hand, seeking my to-do-list. He had asked God as a young man "to use him in any way possible". And oh did HE! Dennis improved and repaired homes, churches, missions and vehicles then giving hugs, his hearty laugh and sometimes wisdom. He was physically strong, as he could pick up Vicky or mom as they were feather-weight! You knew he was much more talented than he would ever admit. Dependable, punctual, artistic, a wonderful friend with a beautiful singing voice. Dennis loved to eat and a good meal was always considered ample pay for his talented work.
Dennis brought love and hugs to all family events. He loved babies, children, the young, the old, the handicapped and animals.
Dennis was always there, you didn't have to ask. He "walked the walk".
Oh how I shall miss you my dear pearl of a brother-in-law and my friend!
I know you are with Jesus! It won't be easy for anyone that let him touch their life. He leaves a legacy to be be imitated by his children and us.
I also know that I don't really have a clue as to what Heaven is like, but Dennis does. He doesn't have to imagine anymore; and he has awesome companions to hug and fellowship with!

Carol and family: I am so very sorry for your loss. Dennis was a man of so many talents as well as a great husband, father, son, brother, and friend and I know you are missing him every day. Dearest Carol & Jennifer,
I'm so grateful I had the pleasure of spending time with Dennis last winter & having him & Carol, et al in my home for Christmas dinner. Dennis was a kind man, & witnessing Carol's love for Dennis over the past few months in California was touching. I've now met all three of your children, Carol, and what children they are!! You are an amazing family. Thinking of you now and always..

Dear Carol & Family, Our deepest sympathies go out to you. We missed you both this year in Tampa. Dennis was much in our prayers for the past two years. Psalms 116:15 says, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." That tells me that He just can't wait for us to get there. What a comforting thought that we are so much on His mind. May God give you peace knowing that Dennis is with such a loving Father. God's greatest blessings on each of you.

I worked and played with Dennis for maney years while at the railroad. He was always there to help me keep my Jeep runing. Mickey Janney, Terrie Whit,Don Lafferty and I had some great times riding the trails in Craig. Time passes so fast and He will be remembered and missed.

To Carol, family members and especially to Momma (Madeline) Dennis was the brother that I never had. In the last couple of years I became close friends with him as he visited in our homes both in Roanoke and in North Carolina. Just this past summer I enjoyed having him in our home in North Carolina as we attended three nights of gospel singing by many nationally known artists. Now I look forward to renewing our fellowship when we all get to heaven. It is difficult to say good-bye but we know that God needed another good man in heaven so he called for Dennis to come and lend a hand in praising Him. May God bless all who loved Dennis.

To the family of Dennis Mitchell:
I always enjoyed my time with Dennis. Any friend of his son's was a friend of his; and he always treated me as such. He was quick with a smile and loved being outside shooting his bow or guns and tromping through the woods in any kind of motorized vehicle that could handle him. I know the loss is keen but I am SO happy he is no longer suffering and is with Jesus. Mitch, you are my best friend in the whole wide world and my heart breaks for you brother. Hang in there....cling to God and allow time to heal you. I will see you soon!

To the Mitchell family:
Dennis was a good man, and will sadly be missed by his family, friends, and peers. My heart goes out to his mother, (Aunt Madeline) I can't say I know what you are feeling now, but Dennis was sent here by God to do a service and he must have completed it,for now he is by Gods side as it was intended. Dennis will be in your hearts, until the day you will all meet again. God bless each one of you!
