Diana Echols Obituary

Diana Virginia Tyler Echols, 63, of Axton, Va., died Monday, March 17, 2008 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center. She was born in Varina, Va., on September 21, 1944, to the late Rev. John F. Tyler Jr. and Catherine Johnson Tyler. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Thurman O. Echols Jr., of Axton, Va.; son, Phillips G. Echols, of Morrisville, N.C.; daughter, Cicely E. Washington, of Hampton, Va.; sisters, Mary T. Anderson, of Richmond, Va., Catherine T. Wells, of Connecticut, Lorraine T. Morris, of Varina, Va., and Monette T. Moore, of Varina, Va.; two brothers, Earl Tyler and the Rev. Theodore Tyler Sr., both of Richmond, Va.; and one granddaughter. Ms. Echols was employed and the Henry County School System for 28 years and the Danville School System for 7 years. She was a member of the Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Order of Eastern Star, Martinsville Henry County Voters League, Martinsville Henry County NAACP, International Ministers Wives and Widows, Girl Scouts, National Education Association, Virginia Education Association, Henry County Education Association, FOCUS Board Member and Piedmont Arts Association. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Edward Daniel McCreary. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Danville, Va. In Lieu of flowers, the requests donations to Axton Elementary School Library, Axton, Va. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, March 21, 2008, from 7 to 8 p.m. and all other times at the home. Arrangements by Hairston Funeral Home, Martinsville, Va.
