Diana Munsey Perkinson, 78, of Boones Mill, Va., passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025.
She was born on April 13, 1947, in Giles County, Va. Diana was a pioneering attorney and devoted advocate for women and children in the Roanoke Valley.
A graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College (1969) and the University of Virginia School of Law (1972), she was the second woman ever to practice law in Roanoke. Alongside her first husband, Frank Perkinson, she built a respected general law practice in downtown Roanoke. In 1992, she began her long and meaningful work as a guardian ad litem, representing children in abuse and neglect cases. She cherished this role and continued into her later years.
Beyond her legal career, Diana found great joy in her lifelong love of horses and all animals. She and L.C. Marshall poured their hearts into Shamchris Farm, where they called home for decades. They enjoyed their peaceful lives on the farm, and they entered their horses in many equestrian and sporting events.
Diana was preceded in death by her father, mother, and her beloved partner, L.C. Marshall. She is survived by Jon and Terrance Marshall; brothers, Ed (Diane) Munsey and Fred (Pam) Munsey; and nephews, Ryan (Lauren) Munsey and Jason (Cara) Munsey; nieces, Kate (Rob) Welch and Alex (Shane) Augustine.
Diana will be remembered for her intelligence, compassion and commitment to justice, family, and community. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Salvation Army Turning Point in Roanoke, Va.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, located at 318 Church Avenue SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. at the same location. Condolences may be shared with her family by visiting www.Oakeys.com.

To an amazing woman I had the privilege of working with over many years. Diana was a very confident and diligent lady who performed her job with compassion and care with the children we worked with together to improve their lives.
