Donald Casey Obituary
July 25, 1933 - April 18, 2024
Donald J. Casey of Roanoke, Va., and formerly of Connecticut, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
Dr. Casey was born in New Haven, Conn., on July 25, 1933. He did his undergraduate work at Yale University and his graduate work at the University of Illinois where he earned his doctorate in chemistry. Don was employed by Dupont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Del., and later by American Cyanimide in Stamford, Conn. He specialized in polymers, was an inventor of the bioabsorbable suture which the body can naturally degrade. In 1989, he was chairman of the prestigious Gordon Research Conferences in the area of bioabsorbable materials.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mary K. Casey and James A. Casey, and his sister, Lois M. Casey. He is survived by his wife, Adria C. Casey; his children, Hon. Cesar Noble and Adria (Chuck) McPherson; his granddaughters, Casey (Adam) Levitus, Lauren Noble, Jackie (Kim) McPherson, Margaret Noble, and Cloe Noble; his great-granddaughter, Quinn; and his great-grandson, Will.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Saint Gerard Catholic Church with The Rev. Daniel Cogut officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date in New Haven, Conn.
