Emma Allen Obituary

Emma Edith Allen, 95, of Roanoke, Va., and formerly of Beckley, W.Va., went home to be with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Thursday evening, October 22, 2009, at her home after a short illness. She was a member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va. Emma was preceded in death by her loving fine Christian husband, John Allen; her precious son, Donald Allen; her precious daughter, Betty Allen; her loving brothers, Kenneth Seelinger and Dearl Seelinger; her loving sister, Annie Bradley; and her loving grandson, Johnny Allen. She was born on August 5, 1914, in Beauty, W.Va., a daughter of the late Mike and Emma Seelinger. At an early age Emma moved with her parents to Raleigh, W.Va., and the family became members of Raleigh Community Church. As an adult she became very active in the Women's Circle. Emma was a bookkeeper for J.O. Lively Construction in Beckley and Glen White for 25 years before retiring. She was on a bowling league for J.O. Lively Construction and also bowled on a Senior Citizens League for many years. Emma is survived by her precious daughter, Lois Hawthorne, of Roanoke; her loving grandsons, Gregory Hawthorne, of Moneta, Donny Allen, of Cleveland, Ohio, Timmy Allen, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; her loving granddaughters, Lori Jean Ponton, of Lovingston, and Jo-Zette Nakajima, of Roanoke; loving brother, Mike Seelinger, of Manchester, Iowa; and is also survived by her sweet and considerate daughter-in-law, Edna Allen, of Northfield Center, Ohio. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009, at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church, with Dr. Tom Stocks officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 3p.m. at the church. Another service will be held 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, W.Va., with the Rev. Rodney Allen officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, W.Va. Oakey's South Chapel is handling funeral arrangements. 540-989-3131.

Lois,

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. We know she is with our Savior. She and Betty are probably living it up on the Streets of Gold. I think of you often but am rarely in Roanoke.
