Erna Lisette Isler obituary, Roanoke Valley, VA

Erna Isler Obituary

Erna Lisette Isler, 96, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Erich Landsberg; second husband, Arthur Isler; and sister, Lore Rasmussen. Mrs. Isler was born in Germany in 1912 and immigrated to the United States in 1936. She later lived for 20 years in the artist community of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and was a talented prize-winning modern artist who enjoyed painting in colorful acrylics. Survivors include her son, Tom Landsberg; daughter-in-law, Kate Steinbacher; and brother, Werner May. A celebration of Erna's life will be held 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at The Park-Oak Grove Retirement Community, 4920 Woodmar Dr., Roanoke, where people will be encouraged to share their remembrances. The family would like to express its appreciation to Opera Roanoke for keeping fine music in Erna's life; to The Park-Oak Grove Retirement Community; The Richfield Retirement Community; and Home Instead Senior Care, for their loving contribution to Erna's life in Roanoke. To continue the memory of Mrs. Isler, donations to Opera Roanoke are suggested. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
