Evelyn Massingill Batchelor

Evelyn Massingill Batchelor, 91, of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2011. She was born on January 31, 1920, in Pickens County, S.C., to the late Thomas and Nancy Massingill. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Paul R. Batchelor; son, David L. Batchelor; daughterin-law, Trina M. Batchelor; seven brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Curtis Easter, of Lexington, S.C.; son, Stephen Batchelor, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Linda Batchelor, of Max Meadows, Va.; sister, Biddie Crenshaw, of Pickens, S.C.; grandchildren, Shawn Easter, Christopher Batchelor, Gina Easter Holmes, Michael Batchelor, Kevin Batchelor, and Corey Batchelor; and nine great-grandchildren. An expert seamstress, Evelyn also loved to knit, quilt, weave baskets, garden, and bake. She was well-known for her cakes and coconut pies. A member of First Baptist Church for over 60 years, she was remembered for her involvement in community missions. She spent many years in retail sales, primarily at Jenrette's, a women's clothing store. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at First Baptist Church, Hillsville, Va., with the Reverend Michael Shockley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall. Special thanks are extended by Evelyn's family to the staffs at Wheatland Retirement Community and Trinity Mission of Hillsville for their loving care.
