Fay Walters Obituary

Fay Bishop Walters

December 26, 1936 - September 23, 2023

Fay Bishop Walters, 86, passed away surrounded by family and friends on September 23, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, Virginia.

Fay was a retired hairdresser but never really stopped critiquing hairstyles, providing, at times, unsolicited advice on what would be a better look. She loved a good party frequently planning get togethers for her extensive family and lots of friends. Fay found great pleasure in traveling, especially to warm tropical areas. She loved taking beach trips, cruises, and shopping trips (she never met a sale she didn't like). Fay loved a good prank, passing her mischievous ways on to her children.

Fay was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church. She was a big fan of any sports her grandchildren, great grandchildren participated in. She was often seen in the stands of Blacksburg High football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, volleyball and soccer. Fay also cheered for Virginia Tech sports, especially football and basketball.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ola Bishop, her husband Clifton, her sister Grace Simmers. Fay leaves behind five children: Clifton Jr. (Shelane), Darrell (his partner Melinda), Amy Woods (Steve), Cara (Danny), and Todd (Paige), Her 11 grandchildren; Derick (Meredith) and Jarred (Melanie) Walters, Amanda Weddle (Matthew), Lesley Lively (Michael), Thomas Walters, Matthew, Jacob (Whitnee), and Zachary Woods, Parker, Brandon, and Catie Walters, and two special great nieces Lindsay Hayes and Lauren Holder (Morgan). In addition, Fay leaves behind 18 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Benny Simmers, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carlene and Bob Woolwine, a very special niece, Sharon Simmers (Randy), nephews Benjie and Brian Simmers, Bobby and Rodney Smith and her very special cousin, Blanche Goulet.

Fay also served as mom to others, including Joey Poff and Dean Long. Her family will forever miss her yet will always be grateful for the lessons, fun, and unconditional love she gave freely. She leaves behind special friends Shirley Levy, Mary Page Compton, and Carol Herdman.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff on CMU and ICU at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, for their compassionate care like family and comfort provided during a most difficult time. A special shout-out to Dr. Billy Cox and Amy Williams, we will never be able to thank you enough for your loving support. In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Micah's Backpack in the care of St. Michael's Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are being handled by McCoy Funeral Home.

Fay's service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 2 p.m. and will be held at McCoy Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at 2:45 p.m., following the service.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Fay was a wonderful woman. I remember bringing Juanita Dawson down to her basement salon and having the best time laughing and just talking. With our deepest sympathies
