Frances Hamilton Obituary

Frances Maxine Hamilton, 85, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. She was born August 2, 1926, daughter of the late Raymond and Bessie McCulley Sr. Her greatest pleasure in life was her family, to whom she was devoted, and has always been a wonderful inspiration. She started many family traditions and was a constant presence at as many family events that she could attend. She especially enjoyed dancing at all the weddings she attended in the past few years, and became fondly know as our "Dancing Queen". Frances was a faithful member of Penn Forest Christian Church, and was a regular at the Brambleton Senior Center exercise program.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bart Hamilton Jr.; sisters, Ruth Crook and Betty Mae McCulley; and brothers, Raymond Jr. and Charles McCulley.

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Derrow (Mickey); her son, Tommy Hamilton (Karen); her daughter, Carol Bowles (Sandy), of Roanoke; her son, Larry Hamilton (Vici), of Vestavia Hills, Ala.; grandchildren, Jerold Tear (Stephanie), Robin Barrett (Ralph), Sonia Orahood (Scott), John Tear (Stacey), Bryan Hamilton (Kelly), Matthew Hamilton (Meredith), Amanda Hamilton (Levi Buck), Greg Krista (Jessica), Michele Jarrard (Cody), Brad Hamilton (Abby) and Michael Hamilton (Alice); great-grandchildren, Tony, Kayli, and Bailey Tear, Britney Conrad (Christian), Zachary and, Jacob Barrett, Cassandra and Isaac Orahood, Isabella, Dylan, and Penelope Tear, Kilana and Arianna Krista, Kaden, Kyleigh, and Kohen Whitenack, and Caroline Jarrard; stepgrandchildren, Sandy Bowles (Kristie), Brett Bowles (Gina), Shanin Baker, Theresa Wickham (Ronnie) and Angie Vaughn (John; stepgreat-grandchildren, Joshua, Seth, Derek, and Kayla Bowles, Bert and Abbie Baker, Christie Puckett (Mike) and Hannah Wickham; brothers, Bob, Buddy (Joan) and Richard (Ruby) McCulley; sister, Bonnie Quesenberry (Frank); sisters-in-law, Agnes Hamilton and Iris McCulley; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. The Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Oakey's South Chapel, with Pastor Tim Thompson and Pastor John Hemming officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Cemetery.
The family sends special thanks to Dr. Joseph Lemmer and the staff of Lewis Gale Medical Center, Salem Health and Rehab, Emeritus at Cave Spring and Southern Care Hospice for the compassion and loving care during her short illness as well as the many friends and extended family members who visited and brought joy to her during her last few months with us.
