Frank D. Helfrich, 59, of Vinton, passed away suddenly Saturday, February 26, 2011, after battling Juvenile Diabetes throughout his life. He enjoyed older model cars, especially his 1957 Chevy. Frank was also a proud owner of a 1967 Nova. He loved doing things for other people and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and provider. He was employed at Northwest Hardware. Frank will be sadly missed by many friends and he will be remembered for his great sense of humor and practical jokes. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Helfrich; daughters and son-in-law, Shelby Amos, of Moneta, Va., Sharron Helfrich-Richards and husband, David Richards, of Roanoke; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Wayne Worley, Oie and Dave Taylor, Harriette and Ray Burks; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Nettie Sue Helfrich; grandchildren, Josh and Alex Amos; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2011. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. Sure do miss ole Frank's sense of humor. Great guy. Even though we no longer worked together, I would go by Northwest Hardware on Williamson Rd. When I needed something just so I could run into him.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I had known in time to attend the service. I worked with Frank at Brambleton Hardware. He was always so much fun to be around. He will be missed.

My friend Frank, AKA "Lyin' Louie", "Louie Overstreet" hahaha. Met him when I started working at Northwest in '83. I will always have nothing but the fondest memories of him, his sense of humor, and our friendship. I'm sorry for your loss; he will surely be missed
