Fred Swisher Obituary
July 9, 1929 - March 1, 2026
Fred L. Swisher, 96, of Vinton, Va., went home to be with his Lord on March 1, 2026. He was born in Lexington, Va., to the late Richard and Augusta Swisher.
Fred served four years in the United States Air Force. Afterward, he and his wife, Jean, owned and operated the Western Auto store in Vinton, Va., for 35 years.
Fred was a faithful member of Vinton Baptist Church and a dedicated member of the Vinton Lions Club. He was an avid University of Virginia sports fan and loved to travel, play golf, and trout fish.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Jean W. Swisher and his son, David (LouAnn).
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deborah Lynn Swisher.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's memory to the "HVAC Fund" at Vinton Baptist Church, 219 E. Washington Ave., Vinton, VA 24179. Condolences may be shared with his family at www.Oakeys.com.
