As a graduate of William Fleming,1978, I was one of thousands of students/athletes that Coach Miller influenced. Many years later I ran into him at a h.s. Football game and he recognized me immediately, knew exactly who I was. He talked to me like he had just seen me the day before. He cared about everybody he ever taught like they were his family. He will be missed by everyone who ever knew him.

Coach Miller is of the most AMAZING men that I have had the pleasure of meeting. He always showed love and compassion for EVERYONE! Every time he would see me, first thing he would say is How is my daughter talking about my daughter. He would always say that son of yours doing great things over at PH and I am proud of both of your children. You have done a fine job. Coach Miller has graduated and gained his angels. May your family and loved ones find peace in reflecting on your life well lived. Coach Miller was larger than life, a refuge for those who could count on him to speak wisdom and truth and a kind, humble and God fearing leader. He was a mentor to many including his colleagues as well as the many many students who were blessed by his leadership. Coach Miller was an omnipresent force who served the Roanoke Community with humility and grace. His willingness to go where he was needed and blossom where he was planted was remarkable. We will miss George C Miller, yet have every confidence that as he passed from this life unto his heavenly reward that he was met with " well done, faithful servant- well done! To Eva and family,

We offer our prayers of comfort, love and support as you celebrate the legendary life of our Brother, Kila. We share a strong bond over these many years of friendship. Due to desegregation Kila attended different schools than many of us but by the fact he lived on Essex Avenue he was still a part of our “hood.” We spent time together after school as well as on weekends, even today we are slow to talk about some of the things we did back then. LOL

Kila’s athletic achievements are only secondary to him being an encourager. He served as a role model, motivator, some one who would listen and never let your environment be your dictator. As a matter of fact, Kila would put “foot” to you if you wanted to have a pity party. He was and always will be remembered as a positive motivating force in hundreds of lives!

Many stories tell how he feared nothing which isn’t all true. He did have fear and reverence for his Lord and Savior!

To effectively show respect to Kila we must march on proudly, staying on the course and being EVERYTHING we can be! In doing this we will see him again when the morning come.

More importantly, he was the strongest and kindest guardian of our Fleming family while I taught at William Fleming in the 1990s. I will always be so grateful to him for all he did to give back to our wonderful William Fleming students. His generosity and love for his Fleming family and community always made us feel supported and strong. I will be forever grateful that he was a part of my life.
