George Gregory Thurman Sr.

George Thurman Obituary

George Gregory Thurman Sr., 47, of Harrisonburg, Va., and formerly of Buena Vista, Va., died on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Va. He was born on April 6, 1963, in Rockbridge County, the son of George Pete Thurman and Mildred Douglas Thurman. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ester Spinner. Greg was a member of the Christ Gospel Church in Dayton, Va. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Vera L. Thurman; four children, Markus Lewis, Kyler Lewis, Chelsea Thurman, and George Gregory Thurman Jr.; three sisters, Sandra Thurman, Coretta Thurman, and Joyce Lipscomb; four brothers, Jason Thurman, James Lipscomb, Edward Spinner, and Marvin Spinner; and one grandchild, Makenzie Twait-Lewis. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Christ Gospel Church at 290 Eastview Street Dayton, Va., with the Rev. Tommy Brown officiating. Burial will be held 2 p.m. at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Buena Vista, Va.
