Harlan Baxter Caldwell, 86, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away Thursday, September 23, 2010, at his home. He is a United States Navy veteran, a 1952 graduate of Virginia Tech and retiree from NASA of Hampton, Va. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Arthur and Willie Mae Caldwell. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Thelma Robinson Caldwell; three sons, Donnie, Larry and Jerry Caldwell; three daughters, Harlene Ottolini and her husband, Larry, Peggy Maes, and Connie Dolan; and a very special friend, a pekingese, Muffin. He will be missed by nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild, all proud additions to his family. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. A celebration of life will be held at the Virginia Tech Chapel on October 1, 2010, at 1 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the New River Valley Good Samaritan Hospice, www.goodsam hopice.org , .in Harlan's name.
