Henry Sayers Obituary
Henry Thomas (Buck) Sayers, 63, of Draper, Va., loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend gave up his courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, and is now safe in the arms of Jesus. Buck was born in Pulaski, Va., on November 12, 1945, and was the son of the late Albert and Maude Ring Sayers. Buck and Linda moved to Richmond, Va., in 1970, where Buck worked as a civil engineer for VDOT for 30 years. He always dreamed of being back in the country where he grew up. He was able to restore his grandfather's farm house in Draper and retired there with Linda in 2000. Buck was known for his generous spirit and his willingness to lend a hand. He could be found repairing a tractor, helping build a house, mowing a neighbor's grass, helping put up hay, mending fences and trying to fix anything that was broken. One of his favorite delights was visiting with his grandchildren who thought "Paw Paw" was a very special person. Buck served in the United States Armed Forces and was a Vietnam Veteran. He grew up as a child in the Draper Valley Presbyterian Church and returned to the church after his retirement. Surviving are his devoted wife of 39 years, Linda Buchanan Sayers, of Draper; daughter and son-in-law, April and Thomas Caddy, of Draper; son and daughter-in-law, Jentery and Brooken Sayers, of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Frances Sayers, of Draper; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Tammy Wall, of Pulaski; and grandchildren, Dylan, Emmabeth, Paige and Lydia Caddy, all of Draper. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2009, from the Draper Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Christian Church Cemetery, Draper. Visiting will be held on Friday evening, April 10, 2009, at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. A special thanks for Amanda Sapienza, our Guardian Angel from Carilion Hospice, who lovingly eased Buck's transition from death to eternal life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Carilion Hospice Services NRV, 707 Randolph St., Suite 25, Radford, Va. 24141. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Pulaski, Va.
