Jack Lipscomb Obituary

Jack B. Lipscomb

October 28, 1932 - December 22, 2025

Jack B. Lipscomb, 93, of Vinton, VA, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025, after a long and loving residence at the Davis & McDaniel Veterans Care Center.

Jack proudly served as a First Lieutenant of the Seventh Infantry Division in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after sustaining an injury. He retired from Vinton Weaving Mill in 1987 and later worked for several years as the delivery man at Cundiff's Drug Store.

An avid horseman, Jack was a devoted member of the Southside Trail and Driving Club, serving multiple terms as President. He was deeply involved in the Heart Association Horse Ride in Myrtle Beach and adored his best friend and riding companion, his horse, Rose.

Jack was also a member of the Vinton Breakfast Lions Club, where he most enjoyed working the spaghetti dinners and pancake breakfasts. He was honored as a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award recipient for his service. As a member of Vinton Baptist Church, Jack enjoyed serving with the youth and the fellowship of the congregation.

For the past three years, Jack could often be found in his room at the Care Center enjoying his favorite Western reruns. He was truly blessed to be cared for by the loving and compassionate staff there.

He is survived by his sister, Sarah Beach; three daughters, Vanessa, Lisa (Randy), and Rhoda (John); four grandchildren, Chris (Justine), Stacy (Jes), Chelsea (Josh), and Madison (Chance); and four great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Kennedy, Claire, and Will. Also, surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his dear friend, Sandra Cooper; his son-in-law, William (Bill) Sowers; his grandson, Brian Sowers; and eight brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends at Oakey's Vinton Chapel on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, with the Rev. Dr. Travis Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Jack may be made to the Vinton Breakfast Lions Club, S. Wallace Cundiff Scholarship Fund, the American Cancer Society, and/or the American Heart Association. Online condolences can be made to the family at Oakeys.com.

I'm sure I was in the Jaycees with Jack in the 70's (him Vinton, me Botetourt) with Willey Leffel and others. I remember him as a Great Motivator and Friend. Sorry for your loss.
