Jacob HARTSOCK Obituary

Mr. Jacob Alfred (Jake) Hartsock Sr., 70, of Cana, passed away August 21, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born November 17, 1942, in Montgomery County, the son of the late Earl and Bessie Myers Hartsock. Mr. Hartsock retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RAAP) after more than 25 years of service. He was gifted with a community servant's heart and faithfully volunteered with the Cana Volunteer Fire Department and the Cana Ruritan Club. Mr. Hartsock loyally served as a member of the Carroll County Democratic Committee and worked as a member of the Carroll County Electoral Board for several years. Jake, an avid Virginia Tech fan, truly enjoyed life and the opportunity to coach little league football. He loved fishing and gardening, and most of all he relished spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Patricia Quesinberry Hartsock of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Dan Bartley of Charlotte; two sons, Roy "Perry" Hartsock of Fayetteville and Jacob "Jay" Hartsock, of Cana; two granddaughters, Amelia and Leia; a sister and brother- in-law, Merlyn and Douglas Meredith, of Radford; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Thomas "Tom" Hartsock, of Blacksburg, and Robert "Harty" Hartsock, of Dublin, and Roberta Hartsock of Claymont, Del. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hartsock was preceded in death by a brother, Earl "Buddy" Hartsock; and three sisters, Sue Ridpath, Anita Trussler, and Shirley Hamrick.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jimmy Bishop officiating.
