James "Jim" Bernard O'Brien III

James "Jim" Bernard O'Brien III, 75, of Roanoke, Va., passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

He is survived by his wife of almost 42 years, Susan; his sons, Eric (Jessica) and Michael (Gabriella); his daughter, Heather Jackson (Theodore); grandchildren, Chase O'Brien, Brandon Jackson, Tra Jackson, and Lyric Jackson; great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Andrew Lax (Judith); and nieces, Jordan and Austen Lax.

Preceding him in death are his parents, James and Louise O'Brien; his sister, Donna Allen; and his daughter, Holly O'Brien.

Following high school, Jim served in the United States Army for four years with one tour in Vietnam. Most of his career he was a salesman/sales manager for Porterfield Distributing Company. He later became a Corrections Officer for the State of Virginia until his retirement.

Jim loved his family first and foremost including his dog, Molly. He enjoyed going to the beach and fishing in earlier years but became an avid baseball fan following his sons from T-ball through high school, college and professional baseball for Michael.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Oakey's South Chapel with Matthew Trent officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022, at Oakey's South Chapel.
