James Tilson Obituary

James Andrew Tilson, 84, of Lexington, Va., died Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Blue Ridge Christian Home in Raphine. Born October 18, 1927, in Durham, N.C., a son of the late W.E. "Tex" Tilson and Virginia Peery Tilson, Mr. Tilson was a prominent real estate agent in Rockbridge County, where he farmed and was the owner of Tilson Real Estate for over fifty years. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Lomax "Kitty" Tilson; children, Alan B. Tilson and wife, Grace; Carol T. Atwood and husband, Larry, all of Lexington, Susan T. Richardson and husband, Bob, of Richmond; one sister, Helen Tilson Fletcher, of Staunton; seven grandchildren, Lee Atwood, Laura Atwood, Marie Nicely, Rebecca Tilson, David Tilson, Lora Richardson, and Taylor Richardson; and one great-grandchild, Lucy Atwood. A Graveside Service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012, at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Wilburn officiating. There will no visitation at the funeral home. Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.

I met Mr. Tilson several times, and his father "Tex" who owned property on Bratton's Run. What a pleasure it was to talk with both of them. My Dad, Curtis Cox and I bought property through them, but they were both wonderfully pleasant folks to work with. I'm sure you will miss him. Please find peace in his passing.
