Jane Tingler Wertz, 89, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, December 3, 2021, at her residence.
Jane was born on August 14, 1932, to George Layman Tingler and Clara Bowers Tingler. She was one of seven siblings who were thick as thieves throughout their lives. Jane will be remembered for her love of life, adventurous spirit, her love of practical jokes, shopping, delicious sausage gravy, and Million Dollar pickles. She never met a stranger, and her thoughtfulness was unparalleled. Jane's courage was unmatched, she faced many obstacles with such elegance and grace. Jane cherished her friendships and had an uncanny ability to find joy and contentment in every moment no matter how simple when she was with those that she loved.
Jane was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy of 45 years.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Robin Craighead (Doug); son, Tony Wertz; five grandchildren, Nichole Wertz Baird (Drew), Hollie Craighead Johnson (Robert), Sean Wertz (Danielle), Michael Craighead (Danielle), and Kayla Wertz; ten loving and cherished great-grandchildren, Lexi, Nina, Abby, Kylie, Maggie, Eli, Jackson, Ella Jane, Eulaela Jane, Jameson and one little baby on the way that Jane was certain will be a little boy. She was also known as "Aunt Jane" to many who meant so much to her.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 6 until 8 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Jane's funeral service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021, at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren.
The family wishes to thank Generation Solutions who so quickly came to our aid when we needed them the most. Jessica of G.S. was an amazing caregiver who became like a part of our family. We would also like to thank Encompass Home Health, especially Alex, Jane's physical therapist. Alex challenged her to meet physical goals that she had not achieved in years. Other caregivers who brought her so much joy were Pam, Anna, Samantha, and Terri.

My parents were baptized,at Oak Grove.. late in life ...I know..Jane ..
ministered to them ..you all will miss her so much, she was a wonderful,
loving lady ...you will all miss her, but

I WILL MISS JANE AND HER CHEERFUL WAYS. SHE SERVED ALONG WITH ME ON OAK GROVE CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN'S PROPERTY COMMITTEE FOR MANY YEARS AND HER WIT AND ADVISE WERE SO HELPFUL IN THE WORK OF OUR CHURCH. SHE LOVED TO TEASE AND COULD TAKE TEASING AS WELL AS ANYONE. MY PRAYER IS FOR HER FAMILY TO FIND PEACE BEYOND ALL UNDERSTANDING AT THIS TIME AND IN THE FUTURE.
