June Long Obituary

June Hall Long

April 16, 1931 - June 15, 2025

June Hall Long, 94, of Salem, VA, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, just weeks after the passing of her beloved husband of 75 years, William "Bill" Robert Long.

Born and raised in Montgomery County, June moved to Salem in 1961 with Bill, where they built a life rooted in family, service, and community. She is survived by their son, William Robert Long II; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Jean Hall; grandchildren, Courtney Sakry (Trevor) and William Long III (Stephanie); and great-grandsons, Miles Sakry, Caleb Sakry, and Remy Long.

June was a dedicated supporter of local athletics and spent decades cheering on Andrew Lewis High School, Salem High School, and Virginia Tech football, where she and Bill held season tickets for many years. Her passion for education and youth extended beyond the sidelines. She served on the Salem School Board for 17 years and on numerous regional groups in support of public education.

A devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Salem, June lived her faith through service. She was actively involved in the Rotary Club of Salem, where she served as president and was given the Roy W. Henrickson Outstanding Citizen Award. Alongside Bill, she traveled to over 50 countries in support of Rotary International's mission to eradicate polio, helping to distribute vaccines around the world; a cause they both held close to their hearts.

June will be remembered for her generosity, community roots, and commitment to helping others.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Oaks at Richfield, Good Samaritan Hospice, and Dr. Roy Habib for their caring and compassionate care.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 21, at First United Methodist Church in Salem from 10 until 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Alan Combs officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Salem Rotary Club Polio Fund or the Eastern Montgomery Education Foundation Scholarship Fund.

When I was a young child living at the Virginia Baptist Children's Home the Longs bought my first pair of baseball cleats.
They would take Bob there Son and I to the Chilli Shop in the Glenvar area often. They knew it was a real treat for me. Not long ago I saw both of the at Chip & Joes and Mr. Long opened is trunk and gave me is last bag of Seasoned flour. I was bless to know them.
Mr. & Mrs Long will be missed by many.
Rest In Peace.

My childhood memories always remember her beautiful smile and joy filled greetings!
She and Bill made us feel "at home" when we moved to Salem; getting us to work the hot-dog stand during Olde Salem Days only days after moving. She loved her family and extended family! May she and Bill continue their love and forever happiness in heaven!
