Lewis Shaver Obituary

Lewis Edwin Shaver, 91, of Salem, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, January 30, 2013. He was born in Nace, a son of the late Peter A. Shaver and Lillie Rader Shaver, and had been an area resident all of his life. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Air Force and was a lifelong and devoted member of Calvary United Methodist Church, serving in many different capacities. He was employed by Tidewater Supply Company, beginning as a loading dock worker and working through the ranks to the position of vice president prior to retiring. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Ammen Shaver, who died in 1993. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Geraldine Thornton Shaver; a daughter, Caren Saunders; two grandchildren, Christopher Shaver and Brittany Saunders; a sister, Ruth Ridgeway; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Bob Eanes.
The family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the fifth floor staff of Lewis-Gale Medical Center for the care and love shown to Lewis during his time there.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2013, at Calvary United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tim Gearhart will officiate. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 845 Hemlock Rd. Salem, VA 24153.
