Loretta Rochester Williams
July 30, 1944 - November 26, 2025
Loretta R. Williams, a lifelong resident of Roanoke, Va., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born and raised in Roanoke, Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Christine Rochester and her brother-in-law, the Honorable Joseph M. Clarke II.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 29 years, Tom Williams; her sons, Jay Abbott and John Abbott (Kristen); her stepsons, Craig Williams (Jana) and T.G. Williams (Cheri); and her sisters, Norma Plunkett (John) and Vickie Clarke.
Loretta was a proud and loving grandmother to Rebecca Susag (Chris), Clara, Daniel, Benjamin, Luke, and Joshua Abbott. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren. She is lovingly remembered by her step-grandchildren, Ashley Thomas (Brad), Kevin Williams (Ashley), Rachel Williams, Olivia Williams; four additional step-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Loretta dedicated many years of service as a secretary with Roanoke City Public Schools, where her kindness, warmth, and genuine care made a lasting impact on countless students, staff, and families. With everyone she met, she had a special gift for making them feel loved, welcomed, and valued.
A true fashionista, Loretta had a keen eye for the latest trends and a style all her own. After facing many health challenges, she lived by a simple motto: "Get up, dress up, show up." She embodied this spirit each day and inspired others to do the same through her resilience, grace, and unwavering positivity.
Loretta will be remembered for her radiant smile, vibrant spirit, and deep love for her family and community. Her legacy of strength, kindness, and elegance will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be held at Oakey's South Chapel on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. A service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 2 p.m. also at Oakey's South Chapel. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
