I'm sorry to hear that Louie has passed on. I will always remember him from Rockbridge Baths. He and Aunt Jean would be there at times when we came to our tiny cabin on the Maury. Swimming in Pierre and Louise's pool, and attending the wedding of he and Suzanne. He was a wonderful person. And I will always remember him with a smile.

Le 28 juillet 2011, j'ai eu la chance de le rencontrer. Je ma souviens de cette belle journée, où nous avions marché sur les traces de son père à Couterne. J'ai une pensée attristée pour sa famille.

Mr. Blair is a legendary man in the truest sense of the word. I was blessed to have him as an academic advisor and instructor. And his mentorship truly went beyond the classroom. I can say confidently that without Mr. Blair’s nudge even against my most stubborn of ways, that I would not be where I am today. He demanded excellence while simultaneously pulling excellence out of everyone he came in contact with. It brings joy to my heart to know that although this country lost a hero, that heaven gained and an angel and he went out doing what he loved. Mr. Blair refused to accept the tough hand he was often dealt. One of my life goals is to leave everything I come in contact with better than I found it; Mr. Blair embodies that and will serve as my motivation continually moving forward.
I will end with two bible passages that reflect Louis Blair perfectly:
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. - 2 Timothy
Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness! - Matthew 25:23
Mr. Blair - you have fought the good fight and you have kept the faith. Well done to you - an incredible man.

A friend, a mentor, a public servant. Those are the three words that immediately come to mind when I think of Louis H Blair, or “LHB” as students liked to call him and what he sometimes had sewn on his collared shirts he wore to Scott Shipp Hall. The careers and life trajectories of many, including myself, would be drastically different were it not for LHB’s caring hand and guiding heart. Take one look at his resume, and you think to yourself “what didn’t he do?” Get to know him, and you realize the real reasons why so many peoples loved him and kept him close in their lives. It wasn’t because he was the mayor of a city, worked in the White House, or transformed the Truman Scholarship. It was because he worked so diligently to ensure you, the ones he mentored, were future mayors. To ensure you may one day step foot in the Oval Office. To ensure you received a prestigious scholarship so you could get a graduate degree to one day publicly serve, as he did. And despite his age and his health, LHB continued to live his life to the fullest, cherishing every moment he had in nature and with loved ones.

It is such an honor to have known this wonderful man. Louis was kind, caring and always genuine. His smile brought a sense of peace and he listened attentively to every word spoken to him. I will miss hearing his stories and encouraging words, as he never failed to say something motivational every time we spoke. Louis inspired me in so many ways and made me a better person. Many prayers and love to Suzanne during this difficult time.

I had the honor to met Louis while working at Virginia Military Institute. I have never met a kinder, more caring person. He had a genuine interest in people and always had a smile on his face and a kind word to share. He was the quintessential gentlemen and always referred to his wife Suzanne as the love of his life. In the short time that I knew him, I developed great respect and admiration for his humanity and zest for life. He was one of a kind and will be sorely missed. He has left the world a better place through his remarkable life.
