Luther Cleveland Pagans Sr.

Luther C. Pagans Sr., born on June 6, 1926, in Hardy, Va., passed to his home in Heaven on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the age of 97 years old.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his love, Lois Elizabeth Neathawk Pagans, of 69 1/2 years of marriage, who passed away in 2017; his parents, James Green and Nora Scott Pagans; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Josephus Galen and Bessie Turner Neathawk; siblings and spouses, Helen and Alton Hannabass, Clara and Hubert Simmons, Ruth and Woodrow Morgan, Walter and Lura Plybon Pagans, Estelle and William Marshbanks, Henry and Edith Pagans, Louise and Ricky Hall, Nelson and Helen Nimmo Pagans, Freddie Pagans, Shirley and Troy Dobson; brother-in-law and wife, Richard and Julia Kingery Neathawk; great-grandson, Caleb Wayne Ward; daughter-in-law, Cindy Covey Pagans.

Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Herman Plybon of Peachtree City, GA; children, Gary and Margaret Hannabass Pagans of Goodview, VA, Cleve and Brenda Poff Pagans of Hardy, VA, Charlotte Pagans Cross of Lake Oswego, OR, Dora Jane and Chuck Gross of Hardy, VA, Daryl Pagans of Christiansburg, VA, Jim Pagans of Hardy, VA, and Jim's fiancée, Michelle Chandler of Bassett, VA; grandchildren and spouses, Amanda and Donnie Gibson of Goodview, VA, Deanna and Joel Ward of Vinton, VA, Ashlyn Cross and Dr. Alex Ortega Loayza of Lake Oswego, OR, Betsy Cross and Will Cervarich of Portland, OR, Mary Beth Gross Dudley of Hardy, VA, Brittany and Brandon Hawley of Hardy, VA, Zack Pagans of Christiansburg, VA, Matthew Pagans of Hardy, VA, Lindsay and Elijah Nicely of Covington, VA, Brennan Pagans of Hardy, VA; great-grandchildren, Graham Gibson, Kara Ward, Camden Ward, Charlotte Ortega, Declan Ortega, Beau Ortega, Sidney Cervarich, Krista Dudley, Will Dudley, Nate Dudley, and Maddie Hawley. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

He and his wife, Lois, were charter members of Franklin Memorial Baptist Church in Hardy, Va. His faith was his anchor, and example for our family. Together, they were the best parents providing love, encouragement, and the instructions for life. He went to Piney Grove School, in Hardy, VA. He was a barber in Roanoke, and Vinton, Va., for about 66 years, finally hanging up the clippers at 92 years of age. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the United States Army Cavalry from September 20, 1944, to December 13, 1946, at age 18 - 20. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Ribbon.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon, prior to the funeral service at 12 noon at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, Vinton, VA, with Pastor Jeff Richards officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Va.
