Lynda Lyon Obituary

Lynda Hendrick Lyon

July 8, 1948 - December 17, 2025

Lynda H. Lyon, 77, passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband by her side, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

Born in Roanoke, Va., Lynda was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Moore Hendrick; her father, Preston Ray Hendrick; and her brothers, Donald Hendrick and John "Shot" Hendrick.

She leaves behind her husband of 48 miraculous years, Robert "Bobby" Lyon, Jr.; her sister, Becky Frank; her children, Preston (Kurt) Martin-Lyon and Robyn Lyon; and her cherished grandchildren, Jackson and Daisy Martin-Lyon.

Lynda lived her life like a Joni Mitchell album, full of love, joy, and sometimes sorrow. She would do anything for the people she loved. She enjoyed getting "dolled up" and going dancing. She loved to travel and had dreams of doing so with the love of her life, Bobby. Most of all, she loved to laugh and just spend her time with her family.

Lynda wasn't just a mother to her kids; she took care of all of her family. She was always there to support and tend to whatever those needs were. She worked tirelessly throughout her life as an employee, a volunteer, a mother and caretaker. She devoted herself to many causes and never missed her routine Red Cross donation. Lynda was especially passionate about mental health, LGBTQ+ causes, and helping children and underserved communities.

Her family would like to thank Logan, with Carilion Hospice, for her kindness and compassionate care, and Tiffany, who provided so many wonderful meals for Bobby and Lynda.

A celebration of Lynda's life will be planned at a later date. The family asks that her friends and loved ones raise a glass in honor of this remarkable woman. If able, in lieu of flowers, please donate to your local American Red Cross. We'll love you always, to the moon and back! Online condolences may be shared with her family by visiting www.Oakeys.com.

I was a nurse who cared for Lynda several times in RMH ED; I loved being her nurse and in the presence of her and her husband. I know this comment is late but I have thought about her more times than I can even count. I pray for th family and friends who have lost this beautiful soul. I know I was blessed to have cared for her.

Bobby, I actually met your lovely wife only about a year ago at a Cave Spring High School impromptu alumni dinner in downtown Roanoke. You both were sitting right across from me as I waited for my good friend, Gary Flora, to park the car. Of course you and I and Gary grew up in the same neighborhood and went to school together as well. I had always heard that Lynda was a wonderful, loving person and it definitely showed in her courage and absolute dedication to her family and others. I´m so glad you two had such a wonderful life together. Sending thoughts and prayers to you and your family. It´s been a rough few years. Take care, Blessings always, Debbie
