Marc Fielder Obituary

Marc Layne Fielder, 75, passed away on December 18, 2025, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. True to form, he met his diagnosis with determination, grit, and the unwavering belief that he would beat the odds. Even in the most difficult moments, he kept his sharp wit and trademark sarcasm, traits that remained central to who he was throughout his life.

Born on June 8, 1950, Marc lived a life defined by service and integrity. A proud graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, Marc answered the call to serve his country with honor and distinction. After commissioning, he became a United States Air Force fighter pilot, dedicating years to flying some of the nation's most advanced aircraft and protecting the freedoms so many enjoy today. His years in the cockpit were among the defining experiences of his life, and he carried the confidence, discipline, and boldness of a fighter pilot with him long after his military service ended.

Marc was, in many ways, a complicated man: direct, no-nonsense, and sometimes tough around the edges, but he cared deeply in his own way. He valued honesty, intelligence, and resilience, and he admired those who met life with a bit of humor and perspective, just as he did.

He is survived by his loving partner, Doreen Tolley; his brothers, Robbie and David, and sister, Ann; his son, Layne Fielder and daughter-in-law, Lauren; and his daughter, Taryn Fielder, and son-in-law, Ryan Forsythe. Marc's grandchildren – Sophia "Soda" Fielder (9), Alexandra "AK" Forsythe (8), Connor Forsythe (4), and Elizabeth Forsythe (1) – brought immense joy to his life.

Marc also leaves behind his loyal canine companions, Jasper and Rocket, who stood by his side with unwavering love.

Marc will be remembered for his sharp mind, his humor (even when it dripped with sarcasm) and the strength with which he faced his final chapter. He approached life with a singular mix of confidence, stubbornness, and wit that was unmistakably his.

A celebration of Marc's life will be held in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes remembrances that reflect Marc's spirit – stories, humor, or gestures that capture the candid and resilient way he engaged with the world. Visit legacy.com to share your memories.

Marc and I were roommates during UPT at Craig AFB, AL. During that year we became close friends and "partners in mischief". He attended my wedding and I was able to meet him in S. Carolina when I flew cross country. We lost touch over the years but I always wondered about him and his career. So sad to hear of his passing. With love and respect, Clyde Heckert

So sad to find this while trying to put together a reunion of Marc´s pilot training class 53 years ago. Marc is the reason I had the AF pilot career that I did. I wish I´d found him sooner. Godspeed to him and his family.

We are so sorry to learn that Marc has passed. Marc and I had many memories of growing up especially at Traveltown swimming pool and in our Plantation Road neighborhood. Wanda and I enjoyed the many visits from Marc when we were newlyweds. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of the family. Love, Ronnie and Wanda
