Marshall Roades Obituary

Marshall Preston Roades, 80, of Wirtz, died Saturday, September 20, 2008. Born on July 24, 1928, a son of the late Milton Preston Roades and Virginia Maupin Roades. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joe Roades. Marshall is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marlene Crouch Roades; a daughter, Debra R. Johnston and her soul mate, Ricky Atkins, of Roanoke; two grandsons, Eric Bridgen and Isaiah Johnston; a greatgranddaughter, Trinity Bridgen; two brother-in-laws, James H. Crouch and his wife, Mamie, of Montvale, and Robert L. Crouch and his wife, Dorothy, of Vilamont; a brother, Bill Atkins; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Roger Boone and his wife, Jean; all of his other friends and neighbors of Lost Mountain Road; and his special pets, Mighty, Pal and Star. Marshall enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, farming, helping neighbors and working on guns. He and his wife, Marlene, were members of Epworth United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association at 4504 Starkey Road, Suite 115, Roanoke, Va. 24018. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford, with the Rev. Bill Doss officiating.
