Matthew Golden Obituary

Matthew Dwayne Golden

February 13, 1962 - January 17, 2025

Matthew Dwayne Golden of Roanoke, Va; went to be with his lord and savior Jesus Christ, on January 17, 2025 in Lynchburg, Va.

Matt was preceded in death by his father; John Golden Jr.; and mother, Marion Lou (Milly) Wilhelm Golden. Matthew is survived by his only son, Brandon Golden; as well as his brother and sister, John Wesley Golden III (Marti) and Tamera Fox (Larry). Also surviving are Matt's nieces, Konley Brewer, Savanna Orange, Kendal Fox, and many other cousins.

Matt was born in Alleghany County and raised in Selma, Va.; He graduated with honors and was ranked sixth in the class of 1980 at Alleghany High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va. He also received teacher certification in Mathematics and Personal Finance. Matthew dedicated a combined 40+ years of his life to public services in education and athletics at Clifton Forge Middle School, James Breckinridge Middle School, and Alleghany High School; before being a retired educator and coach in baseball, wrestling, and football for William Fleming High School of Roanoke, Va.

In addition to his dedicated public services; he was also a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church of Lynchburg, Va.; Parkway Church on the Mountain and New life Christian Ministries of Roanoke, Va; serving as an advocate prayer warrior for each ministry team to anyone that was blessed to cross his path of life and was willing to listen.

The pinnacle of Matt's allegiance to practicing a Christ-centered lifestyle was his commitment to being a "Super Dad" single parent for his only son; who devotes all his learning, literacy, and improvements of lifestyle to Matt for being the dedicated father and representation that is needed to walk the narrow path for eternal life, as broad is the path that leads to destruction.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, VA with pastor Grant Beecher officiating. Interment will follow in Galatia Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Botetourt County, Va.

The family will visit with friends at 12:30 p.m. before the funeral service.
