To the Hedrick family:
I was so saddened to hear of Mr. Hedrick's passing, and I hate that it has taken so long for me to post something here. Mr. Hedrick had a great impact on my life and taught me so much, more than just a love for music. One of my fondest memories and probably the proudest for me as a member of the Marching Generals was at the 1995 state semi-final game. He instilled in all of us to improve what we did, not to compete against others, but to compete against ourselves and make each performance better. Because of Mr. Hedrick, I try to always be early and hate it when I am late. The education system not only lost a great music teacher but also a great educator. When you awoke in Heaven, among those to great you were my parents whom had great respect for you. You will be sorely missed. May God grant you eternal rest. And because of you, WCHS was the best.

Mr. Hedrick was one of my Son Zach Ewen's favorite teachers at CAMS. He loved playing the drums in the band. When Mr. H left, he never really got over it and dropped out of band, but still loves music. Mr. Hedrick made a wonderful contribution to our Botetourt County music program. He has touched many lives in his life and influenced the band music scene. Our sincere sympathy to his family and close friends.

Mr Hedrick changed my life and helped me fall in love with music of all types. He was way more than a teacher, he was a mentor, and a friend to me! I will forever cherish the days at WCHS in marching, concert, and jazz band. Love you "Hedrick"...

Thank you Mr Hedrick! You taught me that your life should not be graded by the medals you win but, by the lives you touch and make better! I will always love you Dale Hedrick! Thank you for giving me the moment that will always be my most fondest memory from William Campbell High School......The day we WON Band Of The Day and my sister was right there right beside me!
The music in Heaven just got a lot sweetier!

Mr. Hedrick is the most influential teacher I have ever had! He has done a lot for all his students throughout his career and I am extremely grateful for all he did for me. I would not be the man I am today if it weren't for his guidance and belief in me. I send my condolences to his family and I hope you will be able to gain some comfort in the fact that he is in a much better place and still here on earth because of the impact he has had on so many people. Thank you Mr. Hedrick for everything!!

I still remember my days at William Campbell Middle and High School in the band. Mr. Hedrick was a fantastic teacher and had a great passion for music. I spent many years watching him diagram marching Band formations and instructing many classes in marching, jazz and concert band. I will always remember the day we won band if the day at one of the competitions we attended. He taught me to play trombone which I continued to play throughout college. I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. He was a great teacher and person. He will be missed.

I would just like to thank the Lord for the opportunity he gave my children (kaitlin blevins and courtney seagle) with this wonderful mentor. He not only taught them through music, but made a lasting impression that they will remember forever.

Mr. Hedrick was a wonderful teacher who taught more than music. He taught his students discipline and enthusiasm as well as how to develop a passion for music. It was an honor to be one of his students. He will be missed.

I am so thankful to have known Dale, and to be able to have called him "friend". I truly regret not being able to come home to Wytheville for the band reunion last year & seeing Dale & everyone instead of through FB. There are plenty of memories of band camps & band bus road trips, but a memory that has always stuck w/ me is the look on Dale's face when he shared w/ us, & showed us one time the exact location where his father proposed to his mother. A proud, loving son! He will be greatly missed by the class of 1981 who was blessed to have had him as a classmate.

Dale was a wonderful teacher, band director, and friend. He turned a very small marching band at James River High School into one of the best in the state. He was loved and respected not only by his students but also by his band parents. His leadership touched each of us in a way that will be remembered for the rest of our lives. Thank you for loving and respecting us in return. You are truly missed1

I had the extreme pleasure of knowing Mr. Hedrick from William Campbell Middle School and High School. I was among a small group of brass section who he allowed to participate in marching band beginning in the 7th grade. I was blessed to be a part of the wonderful music program he developed from 7th grade to 12th grade. Those were some of the best years of my life. Most of my high school memories are of "our dad". And yes, they called us Hedricks Kids but we wouldn't have had it any other way. He taught me a love for music and pushed me to excel far beyond what I ever thought I could. I continue pursuing music now because of him. He left a mark on WCHS that none of us will forget! He made us the "BEST". We loved and respected him and even more so now. He will be greatly missed but always remembered! Much love to the family and Rest in Sweet Peace Mr. Hedrick!

Dale was an extremely talented musician and educator, who set an example for his students and everyone who were lucky enough to know him. He was a fair, kind, generous and extremely capable, real man. Wytheville, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the entire music world will miss him and is grateful to have had him in our midst.

Mr. Hedrick was a wonderful teacher! I was his student at William Campbell Middle and High School. He always expected the best from his students and would not accept anything less. He would push us to achieve greatness. When he went to WCHS there were just a few members in the band (less than 20) and when I graduated in 95 we had over 80 in the marching band that year. He took a bunch of kids from the middle of nowhere and made us great. There's no telling how many megaphones he owned, and broke, during his time at WC. Our band was a family and he was our "Dad". Other kids in our school would call us Hedricks kids but we didn't care because we were proud of that! My senior year we got superior ratings at every competition and Band of the Day at two. I could go on and on with stories of him and could probably write a book! He will be greatly missed by so many. And he will always be respected! My thoughts and prayers are with the family!

I was blessed to have known Mr. Hedrick during my middle school years at WCMS through concert band. He was very willing to help and made sure I had what I needed because we were not financially able at the time. That meant a lot to me and my family. He especially had an impact on my brother who was very involved with marching band. He always looked up to and respected Mr. Hedrick a great deal. He was such an amazing, talented person. The lives he has influenced here is unimaginable, even for our small town. So many people morning this loss. Prayers and condolences to his family and close friends during this time. *Mr. Hedrick, you have left one heck of a legacy here and you will NEVER be forgotten....

Thank you Dale for the positive influence that you had on my son Scott. You were always his role model and mentor since he first met you in Band class. There was not a day that passed that he did not speak of you and of all the good times and as well as the bad that you were having to face. My son considered you as his big brother and for that I am always appreciative. Your memories will never fade. Bonnie A. Lewis, Winston-Salem , N. C.
