I can still remember his sweet spirit for all he came into contact with. He has instilled a forever memory in my head. He delivered to where I worked. He was so inspiring and helpful. He prayed for my son at a critical time in his life. I have since met the rest of family and well I know why Mike ( as I called him ) was so awesome. God Bless

I did not hear of Mike's passing until months after....today, actually. I am deeply saddened for the family's loss and regretful for not attending the reunion. As many of my former classmates, I have wonderful memories of Mike. I attended my first VT football game with him as a kid, and hanging out in North Lakes with all our friends can never be forgotton. My prayers go out to his children and all of his family.

I played for coach Mike in what must have been some of his earlier basketball coaching days. I remember looking forward to practice at glen cove and always finding him waiting in advance in his ford probe as we filed in. Even as a young boy, I could appreciate the difference he was already making. My deepest sympathy goes to those who knew him better than I.

Today we planted an October Glory Maple tree in our yard in remembrance of Mike. Everytime we look at it, water it, feed it, and enjoy the shade it will one day bring we shall be reminded of our dear friend. To us, he will always be here, not only in our hearts, but thriving and growing and looking out for us. We think Mike would like it.

I just learned of Michael's passing from Maxine Rodgers last night and was very saddened for you all and our community. I remember him on the Pirates league with my son, Matt, and how good Dewey and Dave were with the boys and what a wonderful family life you had. I was recently reacquainted with Mike this summer at the Bac. I hadn't seen him in years but it felt like it had only been days. We got caught up and laughed as we shared stories about our children. He truly had a passion for life and enjoying what was God given. I remember after leaving the Bac one night and feeling motivated to do some of the things you say you want to do but don't ever do. Mike did some of those things. He was an encouragement to those around him. My prayers are with you.

Dear Goode Family,
I didn't know Mike but Katrina & I are friends. I have read all of the wonderful things that has been sent your way and what a blessing it must be to know you raised such a wonderful person who made such lasting impressions. If only I had been so blessed to have known him. I did have the pleasure to meet him once, at Katrina & Robbie's reception...and I do remember that infectious smile everyone has commented on.
You are all in my prayers. I hope you find comfort knowing he is with our Lord and you will all be reunited with him again one day.
In deepest sympathy,

To the Goode Family,
I was saddened to hear about Mike's passing. Mike was one of the first people to welcome me into the North Lakes neighborhood and Northside Junior High School. He had a great personality and fantastic smile --- he always put others before himself. We caught up a few years ago in the business world and I learned of his continued success as an adult ---and yes, that attitude I got to know was still the best.
He will definately be missed in so many capacities but we know that we will meet again in a much better place.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Goode family,
As so many others have written, Mike has left a lasting impression on so many that have known his smile and character over the years. We followed each other since 2nd Grade at Glen Cove all the way through Northside. He was one of the few that would always come to my defense as we were both small in school but then took our growth spurts later !
His personality was truly infectious and you couldn't help laughing along with him at his many anecdotes and playful spirit. He will be missed but I'm confident that we'll be reunited with him in heaven and rejoice once again !

I want you to know that I am thinking about you both and praying for you and Mike. I will truely miss Mike and his contagious smile. Mike was like the fun older brother that I never had. I remember some days my sisters and I would go out to the trampoline only because we wanted Mike to come out and hang out with us and jump with us. He gave all of us wonderful memories. I looked up to Mike because he was such a fun loving person. I hope that one day I will have an impact on someone the way that Mike did on my sisters and I. Love, Callie

GOODE FAMILY:
AT A TIME LIKE THIS, I AM AT A LOSS FOR WORDS. MIKE TOUCHED THE LIVES OF SO MANY PEOPLE. HE WAS SO SELFLESS. ANY TIME I SAW HIM OR SPOKE TO KAT ON THE PHONE, SHE WOULD TELL ME HE WOULD ASK, HOW KRYSTIN & PARRIS WERE. HE CALLED THEM "THE GIRLS". THEY THOUGHT A LOT OF HIM AS DO MANY. I REMEMBER KAT & I HANGING OUT ON THE WEEKENDS AND MIKE WOULD BE AROUND AND WE COULD NEVER CONSIDER HIM TO BE A PEST. HE WAS JUST SO SWEET AND FUN TO BE AROUND! SOMEONE SO SPECIAL CAN NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! I AM PRAYING FOR YOU ALL TO HAVE THE STRENGTH TO GET THROUGH THIS. I WANT YOU ALL TO KNOW HOW SPECIAL YOU ALL ARE TO ME AND I AM ONLY A PHONE CALL AWAY IF YOU NEED ME. I LOVE YOU ALL!

For Mike's family....
As strange as this sounds, what I remember about Mike was his sister going out of her way to bring Burger King to him at lunchtime in Jr. High.
I didn't graduate from NHS, but I did attend NJHS. I don't remember much about many people, but for whatever reason, I remembered Mike's Burger King lunches. It is strange what God allows you to forget, but even stranger what He allows you to remember. While I haven't seen hardly anyone since I was in 9th grade, I do remember Mike smiled a lot, and I remember him being very happy.
I have been in prayer for the family, and will continue to do so. You have my deepest sympathy in your time of loss.
May Revelation 21:4 comfort you...
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
For Mike's children.....with your heart breaking, please trust God. He can heal broken hearts and bind up wounds. I speak as someone who lost a parent when I was very young. Your dad will live on as long as you carry him in your memories and share his life with others. It WILL get easier to smile as time goes on.
Mike will not be forgotten.
Sincerely,
Linda & Gary Cronise

Goode family,
I just heard about Mike's passing and how deeply saddened I was to hear this. I've not seen Mike in a number of years, but the memoires of growing up in North Lakes and going to school with Mike were just unbelievable. Mike would play any type of ball game, didn't matter which one it was he was always up for it. The swimming pool, playing spotlight the sleep over's etc. were all so much fun. It was a blessing to to have that type of camaraderie with your friends/community while growing up. Mike will be missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

Nick and Sonja - You and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers this week. I have prayed that you will all feel the arms of God holding you and helping you through this difficult time. Mr. and Mrs. Goode, I pray for you and the rest of your family during this difficult time. Mike was a good friend and caring person. Mike always treated everyone with respect and never having a harsh word about anyone. I remember when I first met Mike playing baseball for the Pirates. Mr. Goode and Mr. Dave Rodgers were our coaches. We had many good times on and off the field. I remember spending the night at Mike's house and how his family treated you like you were part of the family. Mike, you are a good friend, and I will miss you. My heart is so saddened by the news of Michael's passing. God has chosen someone so special to be with him now and what helps is that we all will see Michael again in God's house. I will always remember how we use to fight over who was going to push him in the stroller or pull him in the wagon. Dear Dewey, Andriette, Sonja, Katrina, and family.
Michael's home going was shared with me just a few moments ago. I am filled with your sorrow. You are in my heart and my prayers. I will ask our Lord to quiet you with His love and fill you with His comfort, peace, and strength. Michael was a wonderful friend and I liked him much. I greatly enjoyed the many hours of childhood basketball with Michael after school on his court. It was fun even though he beat the socks off of me every game. I could never keep up with his moves or his deadly corner shots. I was the boy who grew up across the street from your home in North Lakes. I have moved back to Roanoke with my family and live not too far from our old place. I am available to you and your family at any time should you feel led to contact me. 580-2634. Once again, I am truly sorrow for your loss and if I can serve you in any way, I would count it an honor and privilege to do so. Regretfully- Karl Hofheinz, Assoc. Pastor at Shenandoah Baptist Church

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I went to school with Mike from 5th grade to graduation. He was always friendly with a smile on his face. I enjoyed seeing him at our 20 year reunion in July. Dear Goode family,
Each and everyone of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Words can not even express how deeply saddened I am for the loss of Mike. I met him 11 years ago when he moved into Somersby. He approached me with his incredible smile to introduce himself and i knew @ that moment he was a wonderful guy. He & I developed a close relationship over the years. He greeted me each morning for many years with his smile & kind words as i would be leaving for work. Rather it be rain or shine he would be waiting on my parents picnic table reading the newpaper patiently waiting on my dad to meet him outside so they could go on their daily walk with Riggins, Sasha, NJ, & Coner. His love for people, his children, and his dogs was absolutely amazing. Mike was definitely one of a kind, and i will always hold a special place in my heart for him.
With love,

Dear Goode Family-I will always have the fondest memories of Mike. Those memories go way back to when I first met him on the baseball fields of North Roanoke. I wish I could be there with you today to say goodbye brother. You were my best bud from preschool through the elementary years…and beyond. North Lakes became a much more pleasant place after we moved out…I am sure. God help any passerby who drove through our neighborhood after a good snow. I remember Little League baseball driving with your dad in the van listening to the Beach Boys…you and your dad competing for the loudest burp…the laughter was hysterical. And your mom always having great food waiting for us after the games and during sleepovers. And snacks after the never-ending games of basketball, football and baseball in the neighborhood. The Goode family was the modern day Norman Rockwell family. A place for all of us “strays” to hangout, be loved on and be encouraged…the traffic through your home was constant but so was the fun and hospitality. One of my greatest memories was after me, Brian, Perry and a few other fellows spent a Saturday night at your house. Your parents took us all to church (after stopping at Dunkin’ Donuts). Not growing up in the church, it left a lasting memory on me at a young age…everything about it…the togetherness, the family unity you modeled, the humility of going to church to worship God. I know you received Jesus Christ as your personal savior as a young man and I know you will be experiencing glory with Him. Until we meet again, your friend and brother in Christ, Mike Rodgers

Dearest Goode Family,
I am so sorry for your loss and without words to express my sadness over the loss of Mike. He was one of my very first friends as a new third grader at Glen Cove Elem. and will always hold a special place in my heart. Mike was one of those folks everyone wants to be near. He had the whole package...beautiful person inside and out. His big heart practically jumped out of his chest and demanded that you like him instantly! I have this image of the cute little blond headed boy with a sprinkle of freckles across his face...sitting in front of me in 7th grade. I remember thinking I picked the best seat in the room! Then years later on our senior trip he sat down with me and poured his heart out about how sad he was we were all going to graduate and not be together every day. What a sweetheart.
I wish Mike's family strength in the long journey ahead. May God embrace you all.

To the Goode Family,
While we are all still in shock over the tragic loss of such a great friend, the time that we spent with your family this evening was the perfect opportunity to reflect on what Mike has meant to all of us. He and Ronnie met for lunch once a month faithfully for 8+ years. The absence of that meeting and their talks of VT, politics and the stock market to Camden, Darden and the dogs will truly leave a void in Ronnie's life. You are in our thoughts and prayers each day as you conitnue to cope with the loss of a great son, brother and father! If you should need anything at all, please don't hesitate to call us.

We spent much of our younger lives together at pre-school in Mrs. Hammer's class, at North Lakes pool jumping off of the high dive (we couldn't have been more than 3 or 4!), riding our "big wheels" down the driveway (and in the street back in those days), playing with our hot wheels, and who could forget when we tried to flood your basement with visions of doing cannon balls off of the stairs!!!...etc.
I think Michael and I got along so well because he was so adventuresome and funny. He had the greatest laugh. He wasn't afraid of anything. I remember when we were about 12 or 13 and they had a summer basketball marathon. He and I were responsible for getting a team together. I think he recruited everyone from Northside and we won!
Dewey, Andriette, Sonya, and Katrina, I am very sorry for what you are going through. Janet and I will be praying for you during this difficult time. Thank you for sharing your son with me so long ago. I will carry these memories with me all of my life.
Very sincerely,
Andrew Rodgers

My deepest sympathy goes out to Mike's whole family. Mike was a great guy. He alway lite up my classroom when he would come to eat lunch with Camden. He took the time to speak to each student and to get to know their names. Every student knew Camden's dad and wanted to eat with him! Mike will be miss by many. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

My sisters and I grew up with Mike as our neighbor. Even though he was older than all of us, we all loved to hang out with him. I remember how much we could not WAIT to jump on our trampoline with Mike, he just jumped so high!! He would teach us crazy tricks. Mike also would bring over the dogs and we would love playing with them. Even when Mike "grew up" and left home, he would come back when we least expected it just to say "hi." I remember going to the backdoor thinking, "Who could this be?" I should have known everytime. I should have known that Mike, with a huge smile on his face, would be standing right there as if he was ready to "jump" again. Mike never forgot me, or my sisters. I know my sisters, and especially me, looked up to Mike and admired him. We loved him. Even though I would pay a bazillion dollars to see him again, I know he is in a better place. Andriette and Dewey, Camden and Darden, you are in my prayers. Mike, I love you and thank you for your profound influence on my life. I will think of you and remember you always.

We all lost somebody special with Mikes passing. We recently were blessed with Mikes friendship at the BAC, and he always made us smile. Mike was a gentle, and sincere person with a heart of gold. His time with us was limited, but will always be cherished. We will miss him dearly.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike's Family in this time of great sadness.

It broke our hearts to lose you
but you didn't go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
I will always remember how when I was having a bad day at the vet's office you would come in and make everything better.

What a special time it was when we moved into our home and we were greeted by such wionderful neighbors. Mike was the brother our girls didn't have. When the oldest three were young, there was Mike, in college, coming out to play. Even after college, Mike continued to jump on the 'jumpoline' with them, or off of it, trying to tag them. They were proud to introduce him to their newest sister when she was born. That's only some of the many ways we will remember him. Billy and I will miss him, his visits to our house, his concern and love for our daughters, his playfulness and care for our dog Millie. He will be remembered by all of us for his laugh, his smile, his love, his energy, and his caring. We want you to know you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Billy, Patty,Cassidy, Callie, Kelsey and Karlie
