Mildred Clark Obituary
Joyce was born on March 6, 1939 in Franklin County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Charles Clarence and Elsie Mae Fralin. A graduate of Franklin County High School in 1957 and Jefferson College of Nursing, she dedicated her life to caring for others. Following graduation, she married Charles Clark, Sr. and began her career at the Veterans Medical Center in Salem. She went on to spend 35 years serving mothers and newborns in the Maternity Department at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley (now Carilion Roanoke). Her gentle presence and steady hands brought comfort to countless families.
Joyce was also a gifted pianist who joyfully shared her music at multiple churches over the years. She found deep happiness in time spent with her children and grandchildren, traveling to the beach, and sightseeing on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Her mornings often began with Scripture and prayer, practices that shaped the kindness and faith that shone through her life. To those who love her, she was the kindest and most caring soul.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her sisters Shirley Bridges, Jane Thompson, and Rebecca Fralin, and by her brother Wilburn Fralin.
Joyce is survived by her son, Chuck Clark and his wife, Leslie; her daughter, Denise Kingrey and her husband, Ron; grandchildren, Lindsey Kingrey, Travis Kingrey and his wife, Jenna, and Makayla Clark; her great-granddaughter, Carolyn Mae Kingrey; step grandchildren, Emily Hardesty and Joshua Hardesty, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the special caregivers from ACG Hospice for their compassion and support.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 26, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Journey Church, 5646 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke, VA. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Duval officiating. Interment will follow at the Sandy Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, 1444 Bonbrook Mill Rd, Rocky Mount, VA.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
