Mrs. Nancy Oakley Ratner, age 89, of Roanoke passed away Friday, September 12, 2025 following a brief illness. Nancy lived a life filled with love, creativity, and connection. She was known for her generous heart and her incredible ability to care for others-whether as a devoted mother, loving wife, loyal friend, or neighbor. Nancy found joy in simple moments: gardening, playing the piano, quilting with friends, sharing stories and laughter, and always making those around her feel valued and loved.

She is pre-deceased by her husband, Victor A. Ratner and survived by her beloved children, Joel M. Ratner (Lisa), Paul E. Ratner (Julie), Daniel J. Ratner (Nicole) and Karen K. Kennington (John). Nancy was also the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren, Samantha Maranhao (Lucas), Holly Shwayder (Matt), Chase Kennington, Ben Ratner, Ethan Ratner, Drew Ratner, Emma Ratner and Cecily Ratner. More recently she became a great-grandmother to Lily Shwayder. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life and the source of her greatest pride.

In keeping with Nancy's wishes, services and a celebration of life will be private for the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Hermitage of Roanoke, directed to their Resident Program Fund (https://hermitageroanoke.org/philanthropy/), in gratitude for the kindness and compassion they shared with Nancy and her family.
