Patricia Ann Fronk Skelton
March 17, 1932 - May 4, 2022
Patricia Ann Fronk "Pat" Skelton, 90, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
Pat was predeceased by her husband of 27 years, Richard E. Skelton, Col. USAF; her parents, Robert W. and Lillian Y. Fronk; and her brother, Robert W. "Bill" Fronk.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Moore (Clyde), R. Tayloe, Julie, and Clay (Susie). Pat "Mamie" leaves behind six grandchildren, Richard and Stewart McRae, Caman Skelton, Erin Hoover (Corey), and Patrick and Keely Skelton; and one great-grandson, Marty Hoover. Pat is also survived by her sister, Sara L. Vernon, and several nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Covington, Ky., Pat's family moved to Roanoke in 1948. After her graduation from Jefferson High School, Pat began her nursing studies at Lewis Gale Hospital. She married the love of her life at St. John's Church in 1950 and began 27 adventurous years as a proud United States Air Force wife and mother. After her husband's unexpected death in 1977, Pat returned to Roanoke where she built a nice life for herself and her family. She was a strong, resilient, and caring person who instilled those same values in her children.
She was a volunteer EMT – Shock Trauma at Cave Spring Rescue Squad, was on the first board for LifeGuard 10, and worked for Western Virginia EMS Council until her retirement.
Pat was a longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church where she led an Altar Guild team for over 35 years and served as funeral coordinator and Guild coordinator at different points. She made hundreds of baptismal towels, altar cloths and other special garments for the church. Pat felt that the ministry of the altar guild work was part of who she was.
Pat was a master seamstress and knitter and made countless outfits for her children and grandchildren.
Pat was a big sports fan, and you could always find her cheering on her favorite teams, the Duke Blue Devils and Atlanta Braves.
A celebration of the life of Pat will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022, beginning at 11 a.m., at St. John's Episcopal Church with a reception immediately following the service. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Pat requested that memorials be designated to the St. John's Altar Guild. Online condolences may be shared with the family at
