Patrick Hennis Obituary

Patrick Hennis

May 31, 1957 - August 15, 2023

Patrick Charles Hennis, 66, of Lexington, Virginia passed away surrounded by family on August 15, 2023. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Debbie McHenry Hennis; his parents, Henry Charles and Patricia Brady Hennis; mother-in-law Sharon Karlet Cambell and father-in-law Bill McHenry.

Pat is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Melissa Campbell Hennis; their four children, John Hennis (Tori), Katie Humrich (Jacob), Austin Doll-Hennis, Adam Doll-Hennis; as well as his two grandchildren, the lights of his life, Mac and Jack Hennis. Pat is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Peter Hennis (Sharon Lubert), Ann Manley (Bill), Sally Hatton (Tom), John Hennis (Cackie Dowd), Helen Dahms (Terry), Henry Hennis (Dolores). Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Joan McHenry, father-in-law, Pete Campbell (Carolyn); sisters-in-law, Terri Langford (Scott), Karla Sprouse (Stephen); and numerous nieces, nephews, and family. Last, but not least, his faithful companion, co-worker, and road dog, Buddy.

Pat and Melissa enjoyed traveling often to visit friends in Florida, weekends with the shooting group in Hot Springs, as well as trips to Italy, Aspen, Mexico, and Jamaica. More recently they enjoyed spending weekends at Smith Mountain Lake with Austin and Adam. Pat and Melissa spent a lot of time with John, Tori, Mac and Jack in Charleston, South Carolina. Becoming Pappy to his two grandchildren was his life's greatest joy. Last October, Pat gave his daughter away and celebrated her marriage to Jacob surrounded by their family and friends in Lexington. Pat cherished spending time with family and having a strong bond with lifelong friends.

Pat will be remembered by all who loved him as a loyal friend, successful business owner, and integral part of the community. Pat was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was always up for a good time and a cold beer or smooth bourbon. To know Pat was to love his sense of humor, often dry, and ability to approach life with a no-nonsense attitude. Pat's values and the memories we share with him will live on as his legacy is continued by his family forever.

A Mass will be held in Pat's honor. St. Patick Catholic Church, 221 W. Nelson Street, Lexington, VA 24450 at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023.

And a celebration of life will held after the Mass at Southern Inn, 37 S. Main street Lexington, VA 24450 beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The family would also like to thank Dr. Devitt, Nurse Gloria and the rest of the University of Virginia Oncology team. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made in Pat's honor to Project Horizon (120 Varner Lane, Lexington, VA 24450) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
