Patsy Ann (Carmack) Vipperman

Patsy Ann (Carmack) Vipperman, 89, of Roanoke, Va., and formerly of Shiremanstown, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at her home at The Glebe Retirement Community in Daleville, Va. She was holding the hands of her two sons at the time of her passing.
Born in Bristol, Va., on December 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Walter Cornelius and Mary Emily (Miller) Carmack. Patsy was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke in 1951. She attended Queens College in Charlotte, NC. And later worked as a Medical Technologist at hospitals in Roanoke, Alexandria, and Mechanicsburg, Pa.
A devoted wife and mother, she and her husband raised two sons and lived in Shiremanstown, Pa., for 25 years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cross-stitch, and loved to play Tetris and Dr. Mario with her children and grandchildren.
She and her husband returned to Roanoke upon their retirement in 1986. Patsy was, most recently, a member of the Bonsack United Methodist Church and was a member of the Shiremanstown United Methodist Church while she resided in Pennsylvania.
In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and her son, Richard. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Beth Vipperman of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Andy and Kerri Vipperman of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Sarah (Drew) Simonsen, John Vipperman (fiancée, Hanna Stopak), and Drew Vipperman; her brother, Robert Copenhaver of Daleville; sister, Betty McNeil of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the nursing and support staff of The Glebe for providing exceptional and compassionate care to our parents during their time as residents.
Services for Patsy will be held at Oakey's East Chapel, Roanoke on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 2 p.m. The family will receive visitors at Oakey's East Chapel prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. A private interment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Salem, Va., will be held on Monday.
