Rita Carole Hylton Amos
June 16, 1939 - April 28, 2021
Rita Carole Hylton Amos, 81, of Roanoke, Virginia, peacefully met our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, with her husband by her side and in her daughter's arms.
"Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." Proverbs 31:31
Rita was able to remain in her home through her illness because of the promise and dedication of her loving husband of 68 years, William R. Amos Jr. and because of the devotion and care of her daughter, Teresa and husband, Steven. Born on June 16, 1939 in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of the late Howard R. Hylton and Christine Scott Hylton.
Rita is survived by her husband of 68 years, William R. Amos Jr., and her daughter, Teresa Amos Kennedy and husband, Steven, of Roanoke, Va. Rita is also survived by her brother, Charles H. Hylton and wife, LaWanda, and three nephews, Christopher, Aaron, and Kevin Hylton.
Rita spent her life taking care of her family, two legged and four legged. She was fiercely protective of her family and loved her dogs. Tess, her favorite Shi Tzu, became the light of her life. For the past few years as Rita battled her illness her joy was focusing on where Tess was every minute of the day, if she was eating properly, and if she was safe.
Rita will be greatly missed with each passing day by her family and pups, until all meet again in the presence of our Lord.
A private graveside service will be held for family and friends on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Gregory Hetherington of Melrose Baptist Church will be officiating the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes, Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or to Melrose Baptist Church Children and Youth Ministry, 3520 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019. Online condolences may be shared with the family at
