Robert O. Eby

Born: March 16, 1920; in Dayton, Ohio

Died: Nov. 6, 2008; in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Robert O. Eby, 88, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 16, 1920, in Dayton, Ohio, to Ohmer and Elizabeth (Duell) Eby. He and Kit Thompson were married Aug. 16, 1946, in Dayton.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from Nov. 17, 1941, to June 30, 1947.

Moving to Woodstock from Elgin in 1955, he owned and operated Eby Jewelry for 20 years.

After retiring, he and Kit moved to Ormond Beach, Fla. They then moved to Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., and lived the past 10 years in Cape Girardeau.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; his son, Michael R. Eby (companion Shelly Bednarek) of Woodstock; his daughter, Sande J. Durham of Dexter, Mo.; his grandchildren, Donald, Douglas and Dennis Hansmann, Mathew (Jackie) Eby and Kelly (Eric) Azarela; and his great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Hansmann and Alex Azarela.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Louis (Betty Jo) Eby; his son-in-law, Junior Durham; and a granddaughter, Sharon Jean Hansmann.

Kit asks that you remember him with love. To choose someone you love and give them all your love now while you are both here to enjoy. Live simple, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly, and leave the rest to God.

Cremation was handled by Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, Mo. A memorial service will take place at a later date in Woodstock.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10820 Sunset Office Drive, Suite 220, St. Louis, MO 63127.
