Robert M. Keffer, also known as Bobby, Uncle Bob and Hammer, 90 of New Castle, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 28, 2024. He was born in the Sinking Creek area of Craig County on September 3, 1933.
He was a lifetime member of Bethel United Methodist Church. After serving in the U.S. Army, he returned to Craig to be a full-time farmer. He loved farming, gardening, family and many close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Forrest M. Keffer and Elizabeth (Kate) Jone Keffer; sisters, Geniviee Schreibeck and Sue Nicodemus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Kate Weeks Keffer; sister, Shirley Garman; daughter, Joan Caldwell (husband Robbie); sons, Lyndell Keffer (wife Mary Ann Cantley Keffer) and Lane Keffer (wife Angie Ferguson Keffer); grandchildren, Sara Caldwell Santos (Mike), Abby Caldwell, Ashley Chicette (Anthony), Mallory Keffer, Evan Keffer, Levi Keffer, and Chase Keffer; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Tracy Early, Alydia Bevins, and Bobbie Hunter. We also wish to thank Carilion Hospice. We ask that memorial donations be made to Bethel United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastor Emory Tarpley officiating. Interment will follow at Ross Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. before the service.

I was sorry to hear of Hammer's death. I always thought a great deal of him. He was a man of hard work, intelligence, kindness, and good character. I will miss him.
