Robert SWING Obituary
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. Swing Sr. and Frances Ward Swing Bozeman.
Survivors include his wife, Jane C. Swing; daughter, Elizabeth Swing and future husband, Johnny Soucek, of Radford; daughter, Lisa Michelle Porcelli and husband, David Porcelli, of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; son, Samuel Douglas Swing, of Christiansburg; son, Robert Thomas Swing, of Radford; brother, William Rodney Bozeman and wife, Jane Bozeman, of Lexington, N.C.; granddaughter, Siena Porcelli; brothers-in-law and sisters- in-law; nieces and nephews; and colleagues and friends.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to CaringBridge.org or the charity of one's choice. The Swing family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford. www.mullinsfuneralhome.com

I was talking with someone today about my earliest days as a graduate respiratory therapy technician in SW VA and invoked Doug's name as one of the very best bosses anyone could ever have. I was so sad when I came home and "Googled" his name to find that he had passed. I live thousands of miles away now and have been out of respiratory therapy for over 10 years, but I can still hear Doug's voice and his booming and heartfelt laughter, and I can see that amazing smile that could light up the cloudiest of days. I did not know any of Doug's family, only the "work" family from circa 1984-6 and the folks from CHRV-CHS (now Jefferson University), but I know that Doug's family must be wonderful folks for him to have been a part of them, and they of him. God bless you all in this difficult time. Heaven has become all the brighter now that Doug's star is shining there!!

I had the pleasure of working closely with Doug for many years in the '80s and '90s in the Virginia respiratory therapy professional association, the VSRC. Doug was a committed, hard working individual on behalf of the profession but more importantly was a man of integrity and boundless good will. He will be missed.

Jane, my sincerest condolences to you and your family. I know you have both had a hard time for a while and I can't imagine what you're going through. I want you to know I've truly admired you and Doug both and your strength and compassion have inspired me for a long time. I am sorry I wasn't able to see him since I left the bank. I had the pleasure of knowing Doug for a lot of years. Doug was one of my first clinical instructors when I attended Respiratory Therapist school. As co workers we always had fun, I always enjoyed his big laugh and smile. He was a great guy. My thoughts are with the family during this most difficult time.

I was fortunate to work for Doug years ago at the old Radford Hospital. He was kind and considerate and his sense of humor made work fun.

There will never be another guy like Doug. His smile laugh and sense of humor gott us all through some difficult times. He truly cared for the people around him. He will be greatly missed.
