Roger Leon Goad

Roger Leon Goad, 73, of Floyd, Va., went home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving family as he entered his Heavenly home.

He was a charter member of Word of Truth Baptist Church and worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for 39 years. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nursing staff and Dr. March for taking amazing care of Roger during his time at Skyline Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Ida Goad; and sisters, Judy Ann Goad, and Joann Goad Nester. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Erma Wade Goad; daughters, Denise (Johnny) Garrett, and Delores (Aaron) Akers; sons, Darrell (Donna) Goad, and Darren Goad; special grandchildren, Makayla Garrett, Jude Garrett, Sophia Akers, and Phoebe Mae Akers; brother, James B. Goad, nieces, Judy (Don) Cain, Diane (Lloyd) Minter; nephews, Dale Goad, Allen (Lisa) Nester; in-laws, Ivadell Janney, Thelma Sutphin, Coy (Brenda) Wade, Claude (Rhonda) Wade, Joyce (Jimmy) DeHart, Elizabeth (Roger) Bower, and Vera Sewell; great nieces and nephew, many cousins, VDOT co-workers, friends and church family.

Roger enjoyed many things in his lifetime. He enjoyed being outside in God's creation, driving his tractor, sitting on his front porch, spending time in his garage and workshop, and being a prankster. In the fall, Roger could always be seen at local craft shows with Erma selling their delicious, canned goods. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his special grandchildren. He had the most infectious smile, outgoing personality and he always lit up the room anywhere he went.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 6 until 8 p.m., at Gardner Funeral Home in Floyd, Va. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 4, 2022, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Warren Bumgarner, the Rev. Murray Agee, and the Rev. Brian Cockram officiating. Interment will be held in the Lee Cemetery at Tuggles Gap Baptist Church.
