He attended Virginia Tech in the Corps of Cadets, majoring in Industrial Engineering, and graduated in 1965. Ron was a lifelong runner and maintained an active lifestyle well into his 70s. He was a member of Bonsack Baptist Church and volunteered weekly with the Food Bank Ministry. After Trudy's passing in 2022, Ron moved to Northern Virginia to live with his son and daughter-in-law.
