She then taught at Beaver Dam School in New Hanover County, Va., where she met the love of her life and future husband of 55 years, the late Waller Lane Howard III. They were married in 1946 and moved to Roanoke, Va., where they both taught at Lee Junior High School.
In 1953, they were blessed by a daughter, Joy Roberta Howard Krueger of Roanoke, and soon after in 1954 a son Waller Kim Howard. Rose was an active member of Northminster Church, for more than 75 years. After being blessed with children she became a stay-at-home mom, and caring for her family was her greatest joy. Rose always ensured everyone was fed with her wonderful cooking, was an excellent listener and loved long phone calls with family and friends far away. She appreciated beauty through her love of flowers as an active member of her garden club and loved making and giving away her beautiful handmade dolls, and crafts. Rose and Waller were world travelers and loved camping, cruises, and yearly family beach trips.
A celebration of life service will be held near her 100th birthday in February for friends and family in Roanoke. Rose will be interred at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, with her beloved husband.
