Ruby McAlexander Obituary

Ruby Estelle Hodges McAlexander, 93, of Franklin County, Virginia died Saturday, August 7, 2010 in her home. She was born in Rocky Mount on October 24, 1916, daughter of the late James Warrior Hodges and Ada Cooper Hodges. She was a faithful baptized member of the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. Ruby was Miss Rocky Mount in 1934 and First Runner-up to Miss Virginia. She was a pianist and loved music of the Blues. Ruby was a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star, Bluff City, Tennessee, Chapter #414. She also was a charter member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Bluff City. In 1946-47, Ruby joined other women of Bluff City to be trained by Dr. Shepherd to serve as medical emergency team in the event of an attack. With her beloved husband, Buren, they co-owned and operated McAlexanders' Industrial Maintenance Corporation in 1969-1990.
She married Buren McAlexander on October 29, 1938, in Franklin County. Surviving with her husband are her daughters, Mitzi Noble and husband Paul Noble, and Patty Hunt and husband Ewell Hunt of Franklin County; grandchildren, Michael Noble and wife Donna and family of Middletown, Va., James Noble and wife Vickie and family of Swan Point, Md., Ashley Hunt of Rocky Mount; great-grandchildren, Nicole Warren and husband Josh of London, England, and Jackson Noble of Swan Point, Md.; niece, Charlotte Knowles and husband Lee of Lakeland, Fla.; nephew, Al Angle and wife Sharon of Union Hall, Judy Donaldson and husband, Jim of Williamsburg, Va., Lynn Murden and family of eastern Va.; grand-niece, Jessica Mitchell and husband Chas of Roanoke, and Whitney Angle of Virginia Beach; grand-nephews, Kenny Knowles and wife Holly of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Coury Knowles and wife Janice of Deltona, Fla.; great-grand nephews, Charlie Mitchell, III of Roanoke, and Hunter Knowles of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Ethan Matthew of Deltona, Fla. Surviving Ruby is one sister, Audrey Angle of Rocky Mount. Beloved caregiver and best friend, Cynthia Fralin. Ruby's devoted pet, Twister, who acted as her special canine caregiver.
A funeral service will be held at the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, 35 N. Main Street on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at Mountain View Memorial Park. The Rev. Dr. Diedra Kriewald will be officiating with The Rev. Betsy Hague preaching. Pallbearers will be Ewell Hunt, Paul Noble, Michael Noble, James Noble, Ashley Hunt, Jackson Noble and Al Angle. Honorary Pallbearers, Nicole Noble and Charlotte Knowles. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Flora Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, 35 N. Main St., Rocky Mount, Va., 24151. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
