Ruth M. York, 98, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021. She was the daughter of Luther James Martin Sr. and Etta Mae Reed Martin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Lee Martin; three brothers and their wives, Jim and Louise, Bob and Dot, and Nelson and Ruby Martin; a daughter, Ruth York Veasey; a granddaughter, Eleanor Veasey Orr; and sons-in-law, Bill Veasey and Dick Koch.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda York Koch of Harrisburg, N.C., and Vickie York Brown and husband, Don, of Raleigh, N.C.; and one son, Lester Raymond "Rudy" York III and wife, Kathy, of Hardy, Va. She also leaves behind four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving friends.

Ruth was a charter member of Westhampton Christian Church where she sang in the choir and served as an elder and later, elder emeritus. Retiring as a certified dental assistant after 30 years, she later joined the staff of Oakey's Funeral Service, where she worked for 26 years, retiring at age 88. She enjoyed visiting nursing home residents and volunteering at the Roanoke Rescue Mission and the Bradley Free Clinic.

The family would like to thank Helpful Hands Homecare and especially Brenda Jones, for her devotion and loving care.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12 noon on Friday, February 26, 2021, at Oakey's South Chapel with Pastor Gail Davidson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.

Ruth was a beautiful soul, through and through. We already miss her at Westhampton Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She taught us so much about trusting God!
