Shelby Jean Kingery Simpkins

Shelby Jean Kingery Simpkins, 68, of Vinton, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2009. She was born on October 29, 1940, to the late Joseph Lester Kingery and Lois Katherine Henry Kingery. Shelby is survived by her loving companion of 16 years, Mark (Mac) Gordon Jr.; a daughter, Linda Diane Martin and husband, Troy, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Jared Levi Martin and April Dawn Martin; one brother, Claude Everett Baker and wife, Kathy, of Vinton; three sisters, Wanda June Adams and husband, D.C., of Blue Ridge, Nancy Baker Maynor and husband, Kenny, of Monroe, La., and Brenda Baker Poff and husband, Robert, of Floyd; additional family, Kathleen and Wayne Powers and Robert and Lou Anne Gordon; and a special friend, Nancy Price. A service celebrating Shelby's life will be conducted 2 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2009, from the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Bobby Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 16, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
