Steven Alex Buchanan

Steven Alex Buchanan, 63, of Wytheville, Va., died at his home on Thursday, October 8, 2009. He was a former employee of AMSCO Products, owner of Paradise Valley Stable and Farm, and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Forrest and Louise Christley Buchanan; and two brothers, Fred Lee Buchanan and Philip Buchanan. He is survived by his wife, Reta Safewright Buchanan; grandson, Steven Lane Brown, of the home; daughter, Deborah Lynn Buchanan; mother-in-law and special buddy, Florence Mills; brothers, Sam and Pam Buchanan, of Max Meadows, Va., and Jim Buchanan, of Wytheville, Va.; sisters, Patti and Bobby Viars, of North Carolina, Linda Sult, of Virginia, Barbara Corvin, of Wytheville, Va., Nancy and Ernie Johnson, of Virginia, Marjorie Vaught, of Tennessee, and Libby and Earl Smith, of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Shirley and Gary Poole, of Florida; brotherin-law, Gary Safewright, of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2009, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Steven Ridenhour and Vicar Jason Northridge officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 10, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church or at the home of Florence Mills, 545 Century Court, Wytheville, at any time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
